The most important factor to consider is the contractor's overall reputation for honesty and treating his clients fairly!  Not all companies have a good reputation, in fact, some are known quite well for poor customer service, trying to sell their customers new systems when a simple repair is all that is needed, or not explaining all the options a client has before trying to close a deal.  Make certain that your A/C company is someone you trust, and feel comfortable talking to, and is interested in servicing your equipment for the foreseeable future ... and not someone who wants to make "a quick buck" and then disappear!
