"Iced Up" air conditioners a common summer problem!

Hot summer temperatures in Ft Myers greatly increase the likelihood of a serious problem for air conditioners ... an "iced up" coil.  Typically an a/c units coils will freeze up for one of 3 reasons.

Insufficient air flow.
Low levels of coolant.
Setting the thermostat too low during hot times.

One of the best things a homeowner can do to prevent this kind of problem is to regularly change the filter at the intake. Often times a problem can arise from using the wrong kind of filter as well.  A filter that removes the tiniest possible particles, generally used by people with serious allergies or health conditions, have a reputation for reducing air flow more quickly as particles of dust, pollen, and other pollutants in the home accumulate in the filter resulting in the need for more frequent replacement.

Crushed, blocked, or twisted flex duct can also create back pressure which negates air flow sufficiently to cause coils to frost up.  We always recommend a yearly check-up and servicing for your a/c equipment to avoid this kind of problem.  While inspecting and servicing your air conditioner your contractor will have ample opportunity to assess potential threats to your equipment, and intercede keeping damage to your equipment at a minimum, while maintaining output in comfort at cost effective levels.
